Magic Bolt & Proficiency Playtest

Magic “Bolt” Playtest – Version 1.0

 

Effective Dates:

January 1, 2021 – December 31, 2021. This is an optional playtest for Local NERO Chapters and is NOT mandatory.

Forward:

This playtest is an attempt to incentivize lower level players to play Scholars without limiting their gameplay by running out of spells.

Objective:

Other classes purchase “weapon” skill and are not limited by the number or weapon swings or strikes their character can make. A player who wishes to play a pure scholar, must still take weapon skills so their character can engage, if they run out of spells. The playtest allows players to play ranged characters without weapon skills.

Requirements:

Player/Character MUST be scholar to purchase skill & have the Read Magic Skill

Purchase the Magic Bolt Skill at 3 build

Summary:

Scholars can purchase the skill “Magic Bolt” ; this skill will allow a scholar to throw a packet with a damage delivery of “ 2 Magic”.  This delivery method follows the standard weapon attacks rules (blocked by armor, magic armor, shields, etc) [Noted on the Character Sheet: Craftsman Other (Magic Bolt)]

Playtest Challenges:

Confusion may arise with Scholars delivering packet attacks, without spells. However keeping the call in line with standard weapon calls should help.

A player who wishes to play a pure scholar, must still take weapon skills so their character can engage, if they run out of spells. The playtest allows players to play ranged characters without weapon skills.

Requirements:

Used in conjunction with the Magic Bolt Playtest. Scholars can expend 15 build points to allow them add +1 to the base damage of Magic Bolt. [Noted on the Character Sheet: Craftsman Other (Magic Proficiency) Every 5 purchases adds +1 to base damage]

Summary:

By purchasing the skill Magic Proficiency, scholars can add +1 to the base damage of the Magic Bolt to deal additional damage.
